Q: How white will my teeth get using Zoom!?
A: The average person experiences 8 shades lighter teeth after either the Zoom! 1 hour in office session or two weeks of home bleaching with custom fitted trays. The custom fitted trays can be used to enhance the effects of whitening or to maintain the whitening effect indefinitely.
Q: Does the process hurt and is it harmful to my teeth in any way?
A: The process is completely painless, but some individuals experience temporary senstivity to cold, especially when we use high concentrations of bleaching gel to get teeth whiter faster. We do have different concentrations available for those with sensitive teeth. Teenagers would tend to be the most sensitive as the nerves in a young persons teeth are larger and we use lower concentration gels for them. There is absolutely no harmful effect on the teeth when used according to instructions.
Q: How long does the process take?
A: The in-office treatment involves 3 applications of gel with a special light enhancement of 20 minutes each. Protective barriers are placed to avoid direct contact of the bleaching gel with the gums and cheeks, so you can expect the total in office experience to be about 2 hours. We will also take impressions for the custom fitted trays during that time and you will need to return 1 time to pick them up.
Q: Who performs the whitening?
A: While some offices allow dental assistants to perform the whitening process with a supervising licensed professional on premise, at our office the entire process is performed only by a licensed Hygienist or Dentist.
Q: How long will the treatment last?
A: Typically the whitening effects disappear at the rate of 1 shade per 6 months, so 8 shades of whitening improvement will be completely gone in 4 years. However, with the custom fitted trays, one daily application of 1 hour per month, done at home, will keep your teeth their whitest without any shade degeneration.
