OK, so you are about to go on vacation, you have a million things to do, and you forgot to get that pre-vacation manicure or wax. Well, there’s no need to worry - one place at JFK Airport has got your ticket.
“We can do massage, complete skin care, waxing, nails services, haircuts and hot shaves,” says Bruce Schoenberg.
It’s first class service all the way at the Jet Blue Terminal at JFK, where passengers have found an oasis, literally! The Oasis Day Spa, located in the middle of Terminal 6, is a getaway before your getaway. This full service salon and spa is helping jet setters check their baggage and unwind.
“Everybody is in a tremendous rush, and everybody leaves everything to the last minute,” says Schoenberg. “We are aware of that, and we respect the fact that people traveling have a lot on their mind, and so at the last-minute we are here to provide service they couldn't get before they leave.”
The concept is spa services on the go, so all the service are designed around how much time you have before a flight.
If flying has left your skin a little plain, the spa offers special treatments for the weary traveler, like eye de-puffers and skin hydration services.
“I think it’s a great idea, because who doesn't want to look their best when they are getting off a plane?” says traveler Elisa Dubow. “Everybody always looks not so great when you’re traveling all day.”
“It’s wonderful. It’s actually very needed,” says fellow traveler Marilee Burrell. “We get really tense carrying our bags around and dragging them around and rushing around, and this only took 10 minutes, so it was perfect.”
Now if you thought getting through security was difficult, try getting through the airport with wet nails. But any prepared traveler knows you need a plan before you take off.
One option is to take a friend with you.
“She’s already agreed to fasten my seat belt for me and get my iPod out of my bag,” says traveler Lauren Kessler of her companion. “I’ll be sleeping, hopefully, in an hour.”
And if you’re alone and need a hand, believe it or not, the spa will even have someone escort you to the plane. Only in New York, right?
Anyway, prices at Oasis are comparable to most New York City spas, and in most cases services are on a walk-in basis.
So if you are running around non-stop before your vacation, why not include a trip to the spa in your travel plans, because it may help get you grounded before you fly.
