Oasis Staff Spotlight:
Jim

Meet our Massage Therapist: Jim! Both of Jim’s parents worked in hospitals and his father taught philosophy, so he has always had an interest in wellness, such as in the mind-body-spirit approach of the Greeks. Being a Massage Therapist for 23 years has given Jim flexibility, making use of any down time to study and practice related skills, like meditation and stretching.

Jim’s Westchester Schedule:

  • Tuesdays
  • Thursdays
  • Fridays
  • Saturdays (every other week in the evenings)

What does wellness mean to you?

Wellness means to find joy in living a meaningful and creative lifestyle where you are growing with others around you to better yourself and the world, and at the same time, finding inner peace and stillness within.

Why did you get into Massage Therapy?

At 18, I was studying psychology and personal training and found a job life-guarding at a destination spa. This is where everything came together for my career which has grown to include studying Acupuncture and a Degree in Sports Medicine/ Athletic Training. I found this to be the most comprehensive approach to mind-body wellness.

What is currently your favorite treatment at Oasis and why?

I often find that the Swedish Massage is actually my favorite since it is the most flowing and relaxing, which is why it is the foundation of many other techniques. It is the perfect ergonomic match to my Tai chi practice, making massage a pleasure to perform. For example, you may find that it can be harder to stretch and movements may be awkward if you’re really tense, but it all comes down to balance. Even Deep Tissue Massage has evolved from a hard style to those styles using soft hands.
