Oasis Staff Spotlight: Alena

Meet our esthetician, Alena! Alena works with Oasis Day Spa at our Park Ave location in New York City.

What does wellness mean to you?

I believe wellness is a combination of how one feels about themselves, and consequently how they treat themselves. A client who wants to achieve wellness has a desire to feel good by taking care of their skin. Many people see their face as a reflection of themselves inwardly. And in many ways that is true. My desire is to help my clients achieve wellness by teaching them about their skin and how to take care of it. Sometimes I suggest products, or treatments, or lifestyle choices. I want all my clients to be happy with their skin and comfortable taking care of it so they can thrive.

Why did you get into Esthetics?

Originally, I wanted to be a makeup artist. Since there is no clear path into that profession, I decided it would be best to get my Esthetics license so I had training in skincare. Skincare is so important to makeup professionals because it is the base of their work. As an artist, I wanted to understand my canvas before I started painting. While in Cosmetology school, I realized I really enjoyed learning about the skin and skincare practices. During school, I even went on my own skincare journey. This experience changed my mind, and I decided to work as an Esthetician.

What is currently your favorite treatment at Oasis and why?

The Phyto Stem Cell Facial is my favorite facial to perform. It is my go to recommendation for people with dry and/or aging skin. I’ve seen skin completely transform from dry, flaky, red, and irritated, to bright, soft, moisturized, and glossy skin in this 75-minute treatment. As someone with dry skin, I understand the tight and uncomfortable feeling. I love to see the relief this treatment brings my clients.

What are some of your go-to products?

Some of my favorite products are the Eminence Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer and the AHA Eminence Fruit Pulp Treatment. Again, I am biased towards these because they’re both great for dry skin. The Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer provides moisture which relieves dry skin, stems cells from apples and natural retinol to provide anti-aging benefits. Because people with dry skin are prone to aging faster — due to the lack of moisture in the skin — these work hand in hand. The AHA Fruit Pulp Treatment is amazing because it gently, but deeply, exfoliates the skin while providing moisture. And as a bonus, it smells great!
